Ron Rozen, Chair

Recently retired as a partner in Assurance Services KPMG LLG, Ron has served on the boards of the Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver, the Jewish Foundation, Hillel, and Richmond Country Club. He has extensive experience in accounting, finance, general management, budgeting, human resource development, strategic planning, general management, and marketing. Ron has assisted in fundraising for many Jewish organizations, as well as with the United Way and the BC Cancer Foundation.

Bruce Raber, 1st Vice-Chair

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Bruce arrived in Steveston, BC in 1993. Along the way he spent 14 years in Edmonton and a year in Nottingham, England. Bruce is a retired architect, and for 35 years his career focused on the design of healthcare environments including seniors’ care facilities and some of the largest acute care hospitals in Canada. Selected in 2010 as one of the most innovative people in healthcare design in North America, Bruce is a strong believer in the positive impact that the design of good environments can have on the lives of residents, patients, their families, and the clinical staff that work with them. Bruce has served the Jewish community as a board member of the JCC and Talmud Torah in Edmonton, and the Richmond Jewish Day School. Bruce currently is a member of the Aquatic Services Board for the city of Richmond.

Harry Segal, 2nd Vice-Chair

A social worker for over forty years, Harry has spent 38 years in a health care setting, and the last ten years specializing in Geriatrics. He has developed an acute understanding of the specific needs of the older population and their families. As well, his familiarity with the ins an outs of the long-term care system in BC has helped countless families navigate the complex world of Elder Care. He has twice been recognized by the provincial government for his outstanding social work practice. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Harry has lived in Vancouver since 1970, and has watched the Jewish community grow and change in that time. He is a father and grandfather and is keenly interested in both the care we give our elders, and the world we leave to our children.

Dina Schweber, 3rd Vice-Chair

Dina Schweber is a Registered Dietitian with a Bachelor of Science (BSc Honors) in Dietetics from Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City, followed by a one-year internship at the Instituto Nacional de Perinatología, Mexico City. Dina’s career spans over 27 years of practice, predominantly focused on geriatrics, long-term care, and dementia care. She currently works as a Consulting Clinical Dietitian for Rosewood Manor in Richmond, BC, a vital not-for-profit community resource providing funded intermediate and complex care. Dina is a member of the College of Dietitians of B.C., Dietitians of Canada, and the Dietitian Network Group (VCH region). Dina was a participant of the Wexner Heritage Program, a 2-year learning and leadership development program. She also served as Co-President of the Richmond Jewish Day School, and a member of the Beth Tikvah Board of Directors, and a Campaign Volunteer for the Jewish Federation for almost 30 years.

Michael Glaser, Treasurer

Trained in South Africa as a Chartered Accountant, Michael moved to Vancouver with his family from Cape Town in 1998. He’s currently a partner in KPMG’s Vancouver Transfer Pricing Group and has a also worked in international trade and corporate tax. Michael’s expertise means that he is frequently asked to speak to professional organizations such as the Tax Executives Institute and the International Financial Centre of BC. A lover of the outdoors, Michael enjoys hiking and cycling with his family and has a warm spot for Jack Russell terriers.

Sydney Joel Goldberg, Secretary

Fourteen years ago, encouraged by his family, Sydney moved to Vancouver and less than a week later was invited to join the Friday night Shabbat Services. He also found himself a member of The Vancouver Jewish Men’s Choir. One of his most satisfying experiences has been bringing the warmth and Tradition of Shabbat to the Residents. Becoming the Louis Brier’s Ritual Committee Chair is an incredibly special if challenging honour. Sydney’s background included a twenty plus career in Radio Broadcasting in the Midwest including Manitoba, Iowa and primarily Minnesota. During his twenty plus career, he was a Certified Radio Marketing Consultant, on air personality, sports play by play voice and Station Manager. He has been active in the Jewish Community from a young age with leadership roles in USY, AZA, Hillel. B’nai Emet Synagogue Minneapolis, JCC Minneapolis 27 to 42 Singles.

Ted Zacks, Chair Appointee

A Vancouverite from birth, Ted studied at The University of BC, Queen’s University and The London School of Economics. Since completing 20 years of law practice, Ted has been looking after his family’s real estate firm. He has long been active in the Jewish community, including fundraising for the Combined Jewish Appeal for 50 years. Ted was a founder and President of both Camp Hatikvah Foundation and the Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver and served as Chair of the Jewish Community Foundation. Nationally, in the past Ted has served as a board member of the Council of Jewish Federations of Canada, United Israel Appeal of Canada, Canadian Jewish Congress and the Canadian Council for Israel and Jewish Affairs. He joined the Louis Brier Board of Directors in 2017.

Sandra Bressler, Board Chair – Weinberg Residence

Occupational Therapist Sandra Bressler is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy at the University of British Columbia and an instructor in the online Masters of Rehabilitation Sciences program. She is also a senior consultant with Corpus Sanchez International Consultancy Inc. She earned her Bachelor of Occupational Therapy from McGill University and a Master of Arts in Leadership and Training from Royal Roads University. Sandra presently serves as Chair of the Weinberg Residence.

Mark Rozenberg

Mark has maintained a general practice of law in North Burnaby for the past 25 years, primarily working in the areas of Wills and Estates and Family Law. Mark is the proud father of 3 young adult children. In his spare time, he is active as a long-distance runner, cyclist and enjoys a game of tennis. Mark is also a member of the board of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Vancouver.

Gail Butt

Gail Butt is a retired nurse (2015) with a Master of Health Sciences and a Doctorate degree from McMaster University, Hamilton ON. She had a lengthy and varied career working in education, research, clinical practice, and administration. She has extensive expertise in geriatric practice and served as the Director of Resident Care at the Louis Brier 1998-2001. The last 14 years of her career were as Associate Director of Hepatitis Services at the BC Centre of Disease Control where she was responsible for developing provincial education, research, and clinical programs to combat viral hepatitis. Her research, publications and education programs led to national and international collaborative work with other experts in the field.

Nicole Mann

Nicole Mann is a public relations and public affairs executive with more than 20 years’ experience advising Fortune 500 companies, foundations, and governments around the world on how to drive communications strategy and accomplish public policy goals most effectively. She has a special expertise in healthcare and has worked across the industry, representing pharmaceutical and medical device companies, and interacting with diverse patient communities and as a public health advocate. Originally from Boston, Massachusetts Nicole recently relocated to Vancouver from Washington, DC with her husband and their two young children. Nicole earned her Master of Science degree with honors in social policy from the London School of Economics and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Wellesley College.

Beverly Davis

Bev was born and raised in Vancouver. She is a retired Vancouver Community College instructor. She started her career as a dental assistant in public health and quickly moved into teaching and management at Douglas College and the University of British Columbia. Bev has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of British Columbia and a Master’s of Arts Degree in Leadership and Training from Royal Roads University. Bev was a founding board member of the Richmond Jewish Day School as well as Past president. She was membership chair and VP for the Beth Tikvah Synagogue and recently gave up her position at the College of Dental Surgeons of BC as chair of the registration committee.

Ken Werker

Ken has recently retired as a partner with the global executive search firm of Boyden, having served as Chair of Boyden Canada and Managing Partner of Boyden’s Vancouver office. Prior to that, Ken was the western managing partner of Morneau Sober (now Morneau Shepell) and before that, the general manager for Fasken’s Vancouver office. Ken currently serves as a member of the provincial Medical Services Commission in addition to his service on the Louis Brier Board of Directors. Ken and his wife Janet are fortunate to have sons Greg and Eric living close by in Vancouver with their families. Ken and Janet are originally from the United States but saw the light many years ago and moved to Vancouver.

Arnold Abramson

Born and raised in Vancouver, Arny Abramson has a BA in Commerce and a JD Law from UBC. His extensive legal career spanned the gamut of experiences from law firms large and small, including serving as in-house counsel at MacMillan Bloedel and BC Hydro and as Administrative Chairman of the BC Ministry of Labour boards of review. Arny has served the Jewish community as a board member for the Vancouver B’nai Brith Hillel Foundation, the Jewish Federation, the Hillel Endowment Foundation and as a charter member and president of the Macabee Lodge of B’nai Brith. He is the Immediate Past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Louis Brier Home and Hospital and a director of the Weinberg Residence.
